Our introduction to Vietnam was a visit to the tropical island of Phu Quoc. The nine of us, the Shackletons are still with us, spent five nights here, which meant we had plenty of time to relax and enjoy the fabulous beaches.
Phu Quoc Island is located closer to the mainland of Cambodia than Vietnam. From Phnom Penh, Cambodia we travelled 3.5 hours south to the border by mini-van, exited Cambodia and entered into Vietnam. We walked across the border carrying our back packs. After a short mini-van transfer, we caught a ferry to Phu Quoc. The Ha Tien to Phu Quoc ferry takes 1.5 hours.
We stayed at the Peppercorn Beach Resort, a beautiful resort right on the beach. There was a swimming pool and a beautiful beach. We spent our days relaxing at the beach, reading, swimming and kayaking. The food and drinks here are excellent and we spent many happy hours in the restaurant. We particularly enjoyed the daily fish and seafood specials.
WHERE WE STAYED
We stayed at the Peppercorn Beach Resort, a beautiful small resort on the beach. Located at the north of the island on a lovely beach backed by coconut palms. We had two bungalows with thatched roofs, right on the beach, which were perfect in every way. The food and drinks at the resort are excellent. We ate all our meals in the restaurant, particularly enjoying the daily fish and seafood specials. Free cocktails are served between 4-5pm every afternoon. Free kayaks and mountain bikes are provided, with the children particularly enjoying the kayaks. We would highly recommend the Peppercorn Beach Resort for anyone visiting Phu Quoc.
