Fearless Family Travel #38

Hello everyone, and welcome back to Fearless Family Travel. Here we are in September – yes already! The summer is over and we’re back into the routine of work and school, the nights are drawing in, and the weather has definitely changed here in the UK! But lets think back to summer for a moment…

What I’ve been up to…

We headed off on an epic trip this summer, road tripping around Europe in a motorhome. For five weeks we toured the continent. Our itinerary taking us through six different countries. And what an adventure we had!

Having crossed the Channel we headed through France and Germany, only stopping briefly, before spending a week in the Austrian Tyrol. Here we enjoyed plenty of outdoor adventures; hiking, mountain biking and tobogganing. This was a great start to our adventure. We loved being outside and being able to cycle everywhere. Cycling is so much more popular on continental Europe.

Another good day cycling in the Austrian Tirol. Today we ventured to Mayrhofen from our campsite (about 12km) through beautiful scenery. The cycle paths are amazing in this part of Austria. Are they like this all over Austria? A special bike path for miles along the valley, this one following the river. This area is so popular with cyclists, they’re everywhere! And there’s plenty of places to stop for a drink or an ice cream. .. Slovenia was next…and this small country certainly packs a punch. Ljubljana, the capital city, may well have become our new favourite city in Europe. But it’s the scenery which amazes, time and time again. We spent time in Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj, underground at Postojna and in the seaside town of Piran.

We are home 🏡! Our European summer road trip is over 😢. 34 days (and nights) in our trusty camper van 🚍, 4000 kilometres driven, 6 countries 🗺, 7 different campsites ⛺️ and countless shared experiences. .. It’s now onto mounds of washing, labelling school uniform, buying school shoes and school bags, in readiness for back to school this week. Why did I leave it until we came back? Croatia was all about beach time. We’d initially planned to move around more, but in the end we set up camp on the Istrian Peninsula and stayed for two weeks. We were happy living the outdoor life, spending our days at the beach and in the sea, and exploring the nearby towns and villages.

We’ve arrived in Croatia 🇭🇷 and staying at a lovely campsite right by the sea. We’ve been lucky and got a pitch with a sea view. This is home for the next week or so (may be longer!) .. The boys are delighted to be here. The paddle boards and kayak are out and there’s even a waterpark at the campsite @istrapremiumcampingresort. .. Have you been to Croatia? Our return route was very similar, although we spent the last week of our trip in Holland. A country we know well as we lived there for three years and our youngest was born there! It was his first trip back to his country of birth. We stayed at Duinrell, the campsite and theme park, in Wassenaar, which is where we used to live. A fun way to end the trip.

After our mammoth drive 🚍yesterday we’ve hit the ground running! We’re staying @duinrellwassenaar a theme park and campground in Wassenaar, Den Haag 🇳🇱. Today, after a long sleep 💤 we spent the afternoon at the park enjoying the rides 🎠. .. Our week here is a trip down memory lane as we lived in Wassenaar for three years. In fact out youngest was born here. Our little Dutch boy 👦!
