7 FAMILY TRAVEL ADVENTURES FOR 2019
A road-trip through Jordan
Jordan is a fantastically family friendly destination, offering an astounding variety of adventure within a relatively small area. Ride a camel through the desert in Wadi Rum and sleep overnight at a bedouin camp. At night, watch a star show like you’ve never seen before. Float in the salty water of the Dead Sea and cover yourself in therapeutic mud! See the historical lost city of Petra, marvelling at the ancient buildings built into the sandstone cliffs. For outstanding views hike to the Monastery. The waters of the Red Sea, off the coast of Aqaba are bath-warm all year around. Try snorkelling or scuba diving for some of the best underwater sights anywhere in the world. If that’s not enough, head to the ancient Roman city at Jerash, near Amman.

Walking with Komodo Dragons in Komodo National Park, Indonesia
Have you always dreamed of seeing Komodo Dragons in their natural habitat? Take a trip to Komodo National Park, off the island of Flores, in Indonesia. The Komodo Dragons are obviously the star of the show, but the natural environment in Komodo National Park goes way beyond these dangerous lizards. A boat ride is the only way of getting to Komodo National Park, either by faster speedboat or slower multi-day traditional boats. Komodo Dragons, beautiful beaches, astonishing views and sunsets are all part of an adventure to Komodo.

Explore the Garden Route of South Africa
Driving the Garden Route of South Africa is an amazing journey. Not only is the scenery gorgeous but the opportunities for action-packed activities are almost endless. Go whale watching, feed elephants, ride an ostrich, go bungee jumping, hike in the stunning natural landscape, and even go shark cage diving if you dare. South Africa is such a wild place to visit, and the Garden Route is one of its best spots. The week we spent on the Garden Route was one of our best experiences while traveling around the world. Everyday was a new adventure and another exciting place to explore.

Visit the Angkor Temples in Cambodia
Every year, millions of tourists travel to Siem Reap in Cambodia to tour the famous Angkor Wat. But did you know that there is so much more to see than Angkor Wat? There is ancient Ta Prohm, a temple that was swallowed up by the jungle and now has enormous tree roots snaking along the walls and towers. There is Preah Kahn, with long hallways to explore and bats nesting in the towers of the temple. And then there is Bayon, with its faces in the stone, smiling down at its visitors.

Siem Reap has plenty more to offer the visitor than the temples of Angkor. Take a airboat on Tonle Sap Lake, go quad biking in the Cambodian countryside or take a cooking class.

Get outdoors on the Isle of Skye in Scotland
The Isle of Skye is an outdoor enthusiasts paradise! With its stunning natural landscape, hikes of all types and suitable for all ages and abilities, traditional fishing villages and unspoiled wilderness areas. Spend a week on Skye exploring all it has to offer. Make sure to hike to the Old Man of Storr, explore the glorious white sand Clarion beaches, look for fairies at the Fairy Glen and take a boat trip to Loch Coruisk, deep in the Cuillin hills. Make sure to try some seafood too, some of the freshest around.

Explore the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan
Many people know little about the tiny Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan. Bhutan is a fascinating country with much to offer the visitor. There is the beautiful Himalayan scenery, where mountains rise from thick forest. Then there are the beautiful dzongs and monasteries dotted around the country, a deeply Buddhist land. An obvious highlight is hiking to Tiger’s Nest Monastery, perched on a cliff, high above the valley floor.

Hike the Great Wall of China
The Great Wall of China is one of the greatest sights on the planet, snaking across the mountain tops of China. Visit Beijing and take a trip to the Great Wall. We opted to hike the section between Simatai West and Jinshanling, a six kilometre hike. If your kids have the energy and enthusiasm, seeing the unrestored sections are much more exciting than the restored areas. By taking the route from Simatai West to Jinshanling, you get to see the crumbling, ancient wall, and the more manicured restored sections. A great choice for those with older kids.
Hiking the Great Wall of China with Kids
Beijing has much to offer, as well as the Great Wall of China. Visit the Forbidden City and Summer Palace, the Emperor’s palaces, eat Peking Duck, and wander the more traditional parts of the city.

Wow some great suggestions and what trips!!! For us it’s Jordan and Israel roadtrip Easter hols! Still need to plan the rest – will come back if we manage to book SA, Indonesia, Skye, Bhutan or Cambodia – all on our wishlist ? Beijing I didn’t like that much, the highlight of China for us was actually Tibet – which shouldn’t belong to them in the first place…? But our monkeys need few more years for that. #CulturedKids
I’d love to go to Tibet! Your road trip at easter time will be fab…they are fascinating and interesting countries and so family friendly.

Oh wow! Some great ones there. We did the Garden Route in South Africa a couple of years ago. Would love to hike the Great Wall of China #CulturedKids
We are very lucky to have had such adventures! The Great Wall of China is an amazing sight.
There are so many places on this list that I would love to see. I got married in the Garden Route too and would love to go back there as well! 🙂 #CulturedKids
I’m sure we’re all the same, with long lists of places we still want to visit! What a fantastic place to get married.
Looks like an amazing trip, most of those countries have been on the list for so long. Need to bite the bullet and go! So far I’ve not done more than 4 hours flight with the toddler. I should try further afield. 🙂
Making my 2019 travel plans this month, I’ve got Bosnia, Montenegro and Croatia on the list so far.

YES to all of these! Although Bhutan would have to be top of our list.
I am in doubt you’ll get there sometime soon! Bhutan is a fascinating country #fearlessfamtrav
I have always wanted to see Petra. Thanks for sharing. #fearlessfamtrav
Petra is an amazing sight and there’s so much else to see and do in Jordan too. Thank you for linking up to #fearlessfamtrav.
Jordan is definitely up there on the places I need to visit soon too! 😀 #fearlessfamilytravel
It’s a perfect family friendly destination, which just happens to have some amazing bucket list sights.
Wow! So many amazing adventures. I would love to see the Great Wall. Jemma #fearlessfamtrav
The Great Wall of China is a special place. We loved our hike along the wall, even in the super sticky heat!
What a fabulous list. I’d love to do Ankor Watt with the kids
It’s fabulous, but then so are the other Angkor temples, and some of them are a lot less busy than Angkor Wat itself. Our boys loved the quieter, less visited temples, where they could run around and explore more.
What a great list of adventures. It sounds like you try to keep your kids as active as we keep ours! Food for thought for another year or two for us I think. #fearlessfamtrav
Active is good! My boys sometimes demand a rest though. There are so many amazing places in the world to visit.
What brilliant suggestions. I’m keen for all of them but especially the Komodo dragon adventure. We live in Singapore so Indonesia not too far away!
#fearlessfamtrav
You’re so lucky living in SE Asia, so many amazing places easily visited. Komodo would be a fantastic adventure.
What an amazing selection! I can agree with Jordan as that’s the only one that we’ve been to as a family. I’ve done South Africa pre-kids and I’d love to take them one day! I think though I’d have to pick Bhutan out of those. It doesn’t sound like anywhere else on earth – I’d better start saving!
Bhutan is a more expensive destination but definitely worth saving those pennies! We loved Jordan, a real surprise to us.
Some great inspiration! Not sure my two would like to do anything that involved the word hiking, but there’s some amazing experiences here for families. Done some, would like to do lots more – especially Jordan and Bhutan!
Jordan and Bhutan are both great places to visit with kids.
What exciting adventures you’ve had as a family! I hope one day we can visit these places. I’ve always wanted to trek the Great Wall of China, its a real bucket list item for me. We have some travels planned with the smalls this year – Denmark, Normandy and hopefully a week in Lapland. So much world to see and so little time!
Sorry, forgot the hashtag #CulturedKids. It’s too January for me today.
That all sounds exciting. I’d love to hear how you get on in Denmark as its somewhere we’d love to go. Lapland will be amazing.
So many great places on your list and all of them are on our bucket list. We’ll wait a few more years for places like Cambodia, Bhutan and China before visiting with our son. I’m in awe of some of the places you’ve been. #fearlessfamtrav
I’m sure you’ll get to them all!
We loved the great of wall and would love to visit Skye
Loved following your travels in China Leona. Skye is definitely worth a visit, its a giant outdoor playground!
